About Pat Ellacott

Pat Ellacott lives and works in the Ribble Valley in Lancashire, where much of her inspiration lies.

After a career in teaching, she did an art degree at Lancaster University.

“I paint creatures, great and small, focussing on their underlying structure and character. Most of the animals have been seen near my studio. My approach to drawing and painting is honest and unsentimental; I seek to depict essence and animation, based on the underlying structure.  I prefer to work large and loosely, applying pastel and graphite on to oiled paper, but also enjoy the intensity of small, more intricate pencil work.  Either way, the process is completely absorbing.”

Pat regularly draws from life and more recently has taken up ceramic sculpture, in which she investigates issues of old age.

Pat’s paintings have been commissioned by Michelin starred chef, Nigel Haworth of Northcote Manor and Ribble Valley Inns, the prize- winning Bashall Barn Food Centre and the highly successful James’s Places luxury inns and hotels.  Her work has been published in art books and she has a broad following of British and international purchasers .
